In September, not one but two road races were organized around Watersley Sports & Talentpark. The first weekend was all about the Watersley Ladies Challenge and the Watersley Womens Challenge.
Watersley Ladies + Womens Challenge
The Watersley Ladies Challenge has been a concept in the cycling world for junior girls for years. The competition has been well attended for years, including this year. With no fewer than 49 registrations, difficult choices had to be made. Only 25 teams could start with a nice entry list as a result. The national teams of Great Britain, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Canada, France, Slovakia, Norway, Austria, and Belgium, among others, were ready for the start of the first stage.
With the Watersley Womens Challenge, Team Watersley had a first. For the first time ever, a competition was organized for women U23 only. At the start were 14 teams of 6 different nationalities for a three-day competition, with three tough stages in the beautiful hilly south of The Netherlands. On Friday, September 3, there was a tough criterium at the Tom Dumoulin Bike Park for both categories. On Saturday it was time for the individual time trial over 12 kilometers with the start in Munstergeleen and finish on top of the Watersley mountain. On Sunday, the queen stage was scheduled for both categories. A race of no less than 71.8 km for the U19 women and 111.9 km for the U23 women through the rural environment of Watersley Sports & Talentpark. With the winners of the yellow jerseys Flora Perkins (U19) and Femke Gerritse (U23), it was a very successful weekend.
Nederlandse Loterij Club Competition
Last weekend was dominated by the final weekend of the Nederlandse Loterij Club Competition, a closed competition consisting of races spread across the country. 31 Dutch clubs compete in 10 national competitions for the honorary title of 'Best club in the Netherlands'. During the final weekend, 4 races were cycled in two days at the Tom Dumoulin Bike Park and around Watersley Sports & Talentpark.
Together with de Dutch Championship Mountainbike XCO, September was a great month of events.
