The performance 'Delusion' by Oxygen, the dance company of choreographer Jennifer Romen, will premiere on Monday 16 January 2023 in Theater aan het Vrijthof in Jennifer's hometown of Maastricht.
The new year will be dominated by a nationwide theater tour for Jennifer Romen and her dance company Oxygen. With this, they write history and they are the first urban dance company from Limburg ever to storm the theaters. 'Delusion' is the first theater tour of the dance company, which is internationally known for participation in programs such as 'Dance Dance Dance', 'Dance as One', 'Got Talent' and NBC's 'World of Dance' with Jennifer Lopez.
With 'Delusion', the audience is taken into the life of an adolescent who grows up in three parts. Romen calls the performance 'eye candy', with dance, visual illusions, light play, and props that keep the audience on the wrong track. The dance company introduces a new art form in the theater with 'Delusion'.
“The idea of a theater tour had been around for some time. It also really feels like all the work of the past few years is coming together. I've done very goal-oriented work so far. With 'Dance, Dance, Dance', for example, you deliver at least three choreographies every week. Now I can finally work optimally. I've never experienced being able to rehearse for two months for a performance,” she laughs in surprise. “Most people are impressed by all those competitions and TV shows. I had been thinking for some time, 'if only I could show what I really can do'," explains Jennifer.
Jennifer Romen started dancing at the age of twelve and did her pre-education in dance in Maastricht. She broke off her education at Fontys University of the Arts in Tilburg with her propaedeutic year to return to the Limburg capital. She founded the dance company Oxygen, taught dance at the Maastricht Dance Program, and eventually took over it, changing the name to Oxygen – Academy of Dance. With Oxygen she won 'Dance as One' on SBS6, participated in 'Got Talent' in France and won the Golden Buzzer there, and then made it to the finals of NBC's 'World of Dance' in the United States. They were audience favorites on this program and received multiple standing ovations from judge Jennifer Lopez.
'Delusion' was made possible in part thanks to the support of Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds, Gemeente Maastricht, Fonds Podiumkunsten, Gave, Via Zuid, SALLY Dansgezelschap Maastricht, Impact Entertainment, Munttheater Weert, Watersley Sports & Talentpark and Autobedrijf Van den Udenhout.
