Tonight was the day: the Limburg Cycling Gala 2023. During the Cycling Gala it was announced who will take home the 'Limburg Cyclist of 2023' prize. This year it was Valkenburg's turn to organize this prestigious Cycling Gala.
The Club24, consisting of old cyclists and cycling celebrities, monitors and analyzes the performance of Limburg cyclists during the past cycling season. They have nominated three riders in each category.
In addition to cyclist of the year and cycling of the future 2023, there was also the category 'Cyclist of the Year 2023'. Mountainbiker Sophie von Berswordt from our own Watersley R+D Offroad Team was nominated for this. Sophie was crowned Dutch mountain bike champion in the marathon section in Eijsden. She also won the prestigious Shimano Supercup in Girona. She won a bronze medal during the Dutch XCO title battle in Oldebroek. She also has good results on the road bike. For example, she finished ninth in the Elite without a contract during the Dutch championship. All these achievements ensured that she received the most votes during the Cycling Gala and became “Cyclist of the Year 2023”.
After an evening full of excitement and fun, it was finally time for the awards ceremony. During the ceremony Wout Poels were elected cyclist of the year and Freek Bouten cyclist of the future.
The Watersley family is proud of Sophie's victory and that she has been able to develop so well that she will transfer to Team Jumbo-Visma Women.
